Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a member to bring my dog?

Yes. Membership is free, mandatory, and ensures your dog's health and behavioural profile is on file before their first visit. You can join via ProPets.

GETTING STARTED

What is the Paws-port and do I have to do it?

Yes. Every new dog completes the Paws-port trial month — four full days, one river walk, one complimentary wash, within their first 30 days. It's $225 and available once per dog. It's how we make sure the resort is the right fit.

How do I sign up?

Through our ProPets member portal. Click 'Join the Resort' from any page on this site.

Can I visit before signing up?

We're happy to answer questions by phone or email. Our address is 1/3 Rankine Street, Strathalbyn — you're welcome to stop by during business hours.

DAY TO DAY

What are your opening hours?
We're open 7:00am to 7:00pm daily. Late pickup is available upon request.
What do I need to bring?
Your dog, their current C5 vaccination certificate if it's their first visit, and current council registration details. Everything else is handled through your member profile.
Can I book a one-off day without a membership tier?
Yes. The Casual Voyager option is $60 per full day, or $35 for a Half Day, with no ongoing commitment. New dogs can also book a Half Day Introduction at $20 — a discounted first session with reduced group exposure. You still need a (free) base membership.
What if my dog gets sick?
Contact us as soon as possible. Do not bring an unwell dog to the resort. Casual cancellations require 24 hours' notice for a credit. See our billing policy on the Memberships page.
What time should I drop off and collect?
Anytime between 7:00am and 10:00am drop off. Pick up is from 4:30 - 7:00pm.
Late pickup incurs a $15 per 15-minute fee after the cutoff.

MEMBERSHIP & BILLING

How is the monthly fee calculated?
Using the 52-week annual spread (weekly rate x 52 ÷ 12). This keeps your payments predictable year-round.
Can I change my membership tier?
Yes. Downgrading requires 30 days' written notice.
What happens if I go on holiday?
Monthly fees are fixed and non-refundable. Missed days cannot be credited or rolled over.
We have two dogs — do we get a discount?
Yes. Households with two or more dogs receive a 20% discount on the lower-priced membership for the second (and subsequent) dog.

GROOMING

Do I have to book grooming in advance?
Yes. Grooming appointments are separate from daycare and must be booked ahead. Contact us directly or book via ProPets.
Can my dog be groomed without spending the day?
Yes. Grooming is available as a standalone service.
Do you do full haircuts and breed clips?
Not currently. We offer wash and dry services, nail clips, and fringe tidies. Full grooming clips may be offered in future — contact us for current availability.

IS THE RESORT RIGHT FOR MY DOG?

What dogs thrive at Hounds of Strath?
Social, curious dogs that enjoy being around other dogs. Both those with high energy and those who prefer to observe from a comfortable spot.
What if my dog doesn't settle in?
The Paws-port trial exists for exactly this reason. If the resort isn't the right environment for your dog, we'll tell you honestly and help you find an alternative.
Are there dogs my size?
We manage group sizes and compositions carefully. Contact us with your dog's breed and size and we can advise on fit.
My dog is anxious — is that okay?
It depends. We assess each dog individually during the Paws-port. Some anxious dogs settle beautifully once they find their rhythm; others do better in a quieter setting. We'll give you an honest assessment.
